Past softball coaching experience includes 7 years of D.III College Head and Assistant Coach, 2 years of 18U Travel Team, 1 1/2 years as instructor at Round Trip Sports training ages 7 years and up. I've also worked with individuals, small groups and team training with different organizations all around the DC Metro Area since 2000. My degree was in Kinesiology and my thesis was on mental training so I incorporate a lot of the mental game into my training sessions. I also have a personal training background which compliments the sessions since so much of training has to do with proper mechanics and body alignment to prevent injury and maximize the full potential of each athlete.
Received a full athletic scholarship to Texas State (a D.I. program in San Marcos, TX) after completing my AA at Moorpark C.C. in Southern California. At Texas State, I was the starting 1st baseman and usually batted 3rd in the lineup. I was awarded tournament player in the San Diego State Tournament, and set the school record for 2 triples in 1 game (actually was in the same inning). At MC I was a 2 year starter at 1st base and was awarded the Defensive Player of Year both years and the Offensive Player of the Year for one. Our team went 18-0 and were State Champs my Sophomore year (most favorite team I've ever played on) I was also awarded with the Western State Conference Player of the Year (1 player chosen by the coaches of 18 teams in the conference). At MC, I also set the record for most Put Outs (not sure if I still hold that record or not). I played all 4 years in high school and also enjoyed summer travel ball as a teenager. I began playing softball at the age of 5.
First thing is to discuss what the goals are for each athlete, what they want to work on - whether it's general training of offense or defense or something more specific like tweaking their swing or working on their power for hitting, etc. I also like to find out what the athlete thinks their strengths and weaknesses are and talk about the mental game a bit. If we are working on hitting, I analyze their swing and teach them my breakdown of the swing and then work on making their weaknesses their strengths. A lot of my training consists of building self confidence and improving the mental game along with the physical aspects.
